Data Base Replication/Backup

Avoid the high cost of dedicated data lines to your smaller remote business locations for data base replication.

Use ordinary telephone lines and MultiLink PPP connections.

Modern data base software such as Microsoft Corporation SQL Server 7.0 employ distributed database architectures that require replicating the database at various distributed locations. This requires data base update transmissions from the master server to each of the distributed servers at least once a day.

This is not a problem for larger business locations such as headquarters and regional sites because dedicated data line facilities can be justified and supported with onsite staff. However, getting to the smaller sites such as remote sales or customer service locations can require expensive dedicated data lines in order to provide the data capacity to handle the data base updates. Normally these sites have lots of telephone circuits that are not used after normal business hours. Using these circuits for nightly data base replication could result in huge savings in both dedicated data line expense and data communication specialist support costs.

MultiLink PPP is a technology that allows one to combine more than one telephone line into a single data link with increased bandwidth. In many cases, this increased bandwidth is sufficient to handle the data base replication requirements.

Install SrDA POP data modems with Microsoft Corporation Windows NT Server 4.0 software. One or two ISA bus slots can support 4, 8, 12, or 16 built in data modems. Real time online monitors provide important operational information on the status of each modem. Use the existing telephone circuits in both your local and remote sites and simply plug them into modular jack sockets provided with a pair of servers located at both ends. Now you are using this excess capacity with possible discounted rates for off-hour use.

Simple, powerful and easy to use. Your remote sites will enjoy being able to support your data communications requirements with existing staff.
